Senior Director, Development (Central U.S)

To proactively develop Renewco’s greenfield portfolio in the US, we are seeking an experienced, utility scale renewable energy project developer with a commercial mindset pursuing and creating value while leading a responsive development team.  This role will be directly involved in the day-to-day project decisions while initially recruiting a team of developers with a focus on several key US markets within SPP, MISO, and ERCOT.  The candidate can either be remote with a preference to reside in the target market within proximity to an airport for ease of business travel or near the US headquarters of Houston, Texas.

Key activities and responsibilities:

·        Provide hands-on leadership in building and leading a team of project developers who are creating and managing a utility scale, solar and energy storage pipeline of projects in key US markets.

·        Work with the CDO to develop and execute the US greenfield strategy.

·        Responsible for the greenfield development process, managing team members to get to construction ready within strategic timescales. 

·        Be able to manage multiple projects through the project development process with internal and external resources involving market and interconnection analyses, real estate assessments, landowner relationship building, environmental studies, property tax abatement, required permits, land surveys, title curation, regulatory support, execution of interconnection & power purchase agreements, and commissioning support.

·        Collaborate in the building and refinement of internal processes, securing and managing external consultants, defining project’s schedules and budgets, representing the firm at industry conferences, and participating in the leadership of the US Development team.

·        Skilled in completing due diligence on acquisition targets of renewable energy projects in select markets.

·        Actively support the refinement and adjustments as required of the execution strategy in your market.

·        Maintain transparent and timely project reporting.

·        Responsible for managing the overall project schedule and budget.

·        Have strong computer skills with appetite to explore potential fit of new software platforms supporting project development.

Qualifications and experience:

·        +8 years of development experience with renewable energy projects.

·        Able to thrive in remote, entrepreneurial work environment.

·        Comfortable leading a team of internal colleagues and external consultants focused on making continual progress on several projects through different stages of development.

·        Deep understanding of the target market’s trends and developments.

·        Be approachable and lead by example with a high degree of integrity and professional drive, balanced with empathy.

·        Effective, agile thinker and leadership contributor with relentless drive and a focus on the details.

·        Work well within multi-disciplined teams across several time zones.

·        Be goal-orientated while maintaining an organized leadership style to enable team empowerment and accountability.

·        Be able to problem solve by communicating with management your option analysis and recommended solution.

·        Have demonstrated grit and determination to lead team toward project milestone goals.

·        Excellent written and oral communication skills especially in remote work environment.

·        Willing to travel up to 30% domestically, with occasional trip to Europe.

·       Business, engineering, energy related, or similar bachelor’s degree preferred.
