Vice President, Transmission & Interconnection (U.S)

To proactively support the development of Renewco’s greenfield renewable energy portfolio in the US, we are seeking an experienced, utility scale transmission and interconnection leader.  This is a technical management role that also requires a commercial mindset and a strategic planning capability.  This role will be directly involved in the day-to-day project decisions.  Even though the scope is broadly the US, Development’s initial focus will be in SPP, MISO, ERCOT, PJM, and WECC.  The candidate can either be remote within proximity to an airport for ease of business travel or near the US headquarters of Houston, Texas. 

Key activities and responsibilities:

·        Provide hands-on leadership to a team of utility scale renewable energy developers engaged in regional injection capacity analysis and the various interconnection processes inclusive of quantifying the financial fees, risks, and securities required from interconnection submission through SGIA execution and project commissioning.

·        Work with the CDO to develop and execute the US greenfield strategy.

·        Lead all interactions and maintain productive relationships with ISOs, RTOs, transmission service providers, and industry consultants throughout the project lifecycle to facilitate timely execution.

·        Responsible for the interconnection studies process, advising the development team about the risks and various options to get to construction ready within strategic timelines. 

·        Manage multiple interconnection efforts for projects in the pipeline at different development stages.

·        From the interconnection perspective, manage the technical review of key project equipment including inverters, main power transformers, and HV circuit breakers.

·        Collaborate in the building and refinement of internal processes, securing and managing external consultants, supporting Development’s drafting and revising of projects’ schedules and budgets, representing the firm at industry conferences, and participating in the leadership of the US Development team.

·        Skilled in originating and completing due diligence on acquisition targets of renewable energy projects in select markets.

·        Maintain transparent and timely project reporting.

·        Have strong computer skills with appetite to explore potential fit of new software platforms supporting project transmission and injection capacity scenario analysis.

Qualifications and experience:

·        +12 years of high voltage interconnection experience with renewable energy projects with recent +4 years of management experience.

·        Able to thrive in remote, entrepreneurial work environment.

·        Experience in core power markets (SPP, MISO, ERCOT, PJM, and WECC) is required.

·        Comfortable leading a team of internal colleagues and external consultants focused on making continual interconnection progress on several projects through different stages of development.

·        Recent experience working with interconnection design process including optimizing project one-line diagrams and familiar with project modelling with PSSE and PSCAD.

·        Deep understanding of building strong working relationships with ISOs, utilities, and transmission services providers.

·        Be approachable and lead by example with a high degree of integrity and professional drive, balanced with empathy.

·        Effective, agile thinker and leadership contributor with relentless drive and a focus on the details.

·        Work well within multi-disciplined teams across several time zones.

·        Be goal-orientated while maintaining an organized leadership style to enable team empowerment and accountability.

·        Be able to problem solve by communicating with management your option analysis and recommended solution.
